Quick Tips
In this section, I'm going to run through a handful of helpful tips that aren't explained very well at all. Some of this stuff I had to figure out on my own when I first started, or have a friend point out and explain them to me. Most of these things can either be found in your in-game cell phone, or the interaction menu. First, I will list out the tips directly, and then show you the options of your cell phone and interaction menus.

Tips
Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack
This is something that you can get when you are either a new or returning player to GTA 5. With this, you get a huge selection of things for free in the game, as well as $1,000,000. To see the full list of things that come in the pack, check this link.
Purchase A Buzzard Helicopter ASAP
A helicopter is one of the most beneficial things that you can get your hands on, specifically, a Buzzard from the Warstock store in the internet browser on your in-game phone. Once you own one, you and your associates will be able to spawn it for free as a CEO in the CEO Vehicles section of your Interaction Menu, or spawn it as a personal vehicle when you own a Hangar. This is invaluable when doing certain missions that require you to travel long distances in a short amount of time or destroy targets with homing missiles. To register the Buzzard as a personal vehicle, you have to spawn it and then fly it in to the Hangar for it to register.
See Who Is In Your Lobby
When you jump into a public online GTA server, you can hit down on the directional pad (PS4 / XB1) or the down arrow key (PC.) This will also show you the number of people, and whether it's a public / private / invite only lobby. If you are trying to do things for businesses and don't want to risk being targeted by other players, then the most ideal situation would be finding yourself alone in a public lobby. That's when you quickly message your friends and have them join up with you to get some things done without any hassle.
Player Colors
In the list of players mentioned above, or the colorful dots moving around on your maps, you will notice that there are a bunch of different colors and icons with markings. If they have a color on them, that means that they currently belong to an Organization or a Motorcycle Club. If they are showing up as blank white dots or their names are just generic blue, then they are playing alone. Another quick tip: If you see a bunch of people in the same group, don't mess around with them. They'll all come after you relentlessly.
Bounties
If a player is marked with a bounty on their head, they will show up on your map as a red skull icon. Kill them to earn the bounty reward. Another tip: If the bounty is on an associate or a friend, you can quickly disband your group and claim the bounty. This is a quick way to help someone earn a little extra cash, and get the target off your back for other players in the lobby.
Find A New Server
If your lobby is too full and your friends can't join up with you, or if you are sick of getting repeatedly harassed by the same person, then you can quickly find a new lobby. Open your options menu and go to the Online tab. All the way down at the bottom you should see "Find New Session." This will trigger the game to put you into a new lobby. If you want to do a Private Lobby or an Invite Only lobby, you must Leave GTA online and then join again from the single player game options by selecting basically anything other than "Go" in the Online lobby selection menu.
Note: You can select "Find New Session" during a mission if you are having a hard time completing it, or if you or someone else messes up in a supply / sell mission. You may lose a little bit of your stock doing this, but it's better than losing all of it. However, if you do this during an Import / Export mission, you WILL lose the vehicle.
How To Form A Group
One of the things that isn't super clear is forming a group with either friends, or random players trying to make some money. First, you need to register as either a CEO or a Motorcycle Club President. After you've done so, open your Interaction Menu and click either Hire Associates or Find Prospects. The person receiving the invitation will find the notification in their in-game cell phone in the SecuroServ app for Associates, or the Job List app for Prospects.
Invite Your Group To Your Business
Once you've got some people in your Organization or your Motorcycle Club, you can open the Interaction Menu and see that there is an option to "Invite to..." This will change whether you are in your apartment, your Bunker, or a business. You will almost always want to do this if you plan on starting up a business mission so that way you all start in the same location and not spread out around the map.
Note: The only time you want to be spread out beforehand, is if you KNOW that the mission will require you to be spread out for a specific reason.
Spin The Diamond Casino Wheel Daily
I highly recommend that you remember to do this. Head to the Diamond Casino every day and locate the large wheel on the other side of the prize vehicle. This will only let you do it every 24 hours of real life time, so if you spin it at 11:00 PM, you have to wait until tomorrow at 11:00 PM to spin it again. The big prize on this wheel is the showcase car that you walk by to get to it. This changes every Thursday for a new prize car. You can also win cash, RP (experience points,) clothing, or chips (that you can exchange for cash at a 1:1 ratio.)
Daily Objectives
In your Interaction Menu, you will see something that says Objectives. This changes daily, and the reward for finishing all three of these objectives is $30,000, and 5,000 RP. They are extremely easy to do, and rarely require you to have anyone else help you.
Deposit Cash
As you play the game and earn money, you will see two cash numbers in the top right of your screen. The darker green number is the amount of cash that you currently have on you, and the light green number is the amount in your bank account. It's highly encouraged that you deposit any amount of cash that you have on you at any given time. First, open your in-game phone and go to the internet browser. Located the tab above the icons that says "Money and Services." Scroll to the very bottom and select Maze Bank. From here, just follow the prompts and deposit all your pocket cash. You do NOT need to keep any on you at all, because it all comes straight out of your bank account when you spend it. If you forget to deposit money, other players can kill you and take some of it. So, do not let them do that.
Get Back Health Quickly
In order to do this, you need to first get some snacks for your inventory. You can find these at a grocery store, vending machine, or even stop in to see your secretary in your Organization Office to get a bunch for free. Once you have a decent snack supply, and you find yourself in a situation where you need to get back some health, take cover behind a nearby wall and open your Interaction Menu. Select Inventory and go down to Snacks. You will be able to rapidly select one of these items and watch your health bar regenerate.
Spawn A Personal Vehicle
After you own some vehicles, and you want to always be driving around in the thing that you spent money on and painted at Los Santos Customs, you can spawn a vehicle from your Interaction Menu. Select Vehicles and then select Request Personal Vehicle. Note: This vehicle will be whichever one of your owned vehicles that you last entered. So, if you want to change this, you can call your Mechanic from your contacts list in the in-game phone.

Fast Travel
There is a way to get around the map in an instant, but the secret is that you have to be registered as a CEO. Once you do that, you can open your Interaction Menu and go to the CEO Abilities tab. You should see an option to Request a Luxury Helicopter for $5,000. Once it arrives, it will give you a limited list of locations around the map to bring you. Alternatively, you can call your Assistant from the in-game cell phone contacts, but you still need to be a CEO regardless.
Cell Phone
You have an in-game cell phone that you will be using to accept invites to things, call some of your contacts for some backup or to drop off a vehicle, purchase buildings/businesses/vehicles, and also use the SecuroServ icon (bottom right corner icon) to complete some missions that will require you to hack things. To pull out your cell phone, press up on the directional pad (PS4 / XB1) or up on the arrow keys (PC.)

Job List
You will constantly be receiving job invite notifications above your mini-map, and 85% of the time, it's NPCs trying to get you into a quick mission. However, the rest of the time, you will be receiving public invites from players trying to complete a heist or doing some other type of dispatch mission that they need more players for. Most importantly, though, this is where you will receive an invite from a Motorcycle Club President looking to recruit you to their club. This can be a friend trying to get a group together, or a random player in a lobby that just needs extra help. The Job List will also be where your notification goes when a CEO or President invites you to their apartment or business. So, if you are trying to do things like this, keep an eye on your notifications and the Job List.
Play Quick Job
If you are bored and you are just trying to queue up for something quick, whether it's a heist, race, dispatch mission, it will all be right here. Sometimes you may get a daily objective that requires you to participate in something from this list like parachuting. So, remember that this exists.
Contacts
I listed the important ones above in the Tips section of this page, but I will list them one more time here. This contact window is also where you can send a text to another player to ask for their help or to challenge them to a shoot-out, whichever you prefer.

SecuroServ
When you receive an invite to an Organization, it will show up here. It's the bottom right hand corner icon of your phone. This will also be used for certain missions as a hacking device or locating a specific target.
Interaction Menu
The Interaction Menu is like your in-game cell phone, except all of your main options will be located there. To open it, you press and hold down the touchpad (PS4,) the View button (XB1,) or pressing the M key (PC.)
Quick GPS
Is exactly what it sounds like. If there is a location you must get to, and don't feel like tracking it down on the big map in the options menu, then scroll through the Quick GPS to find your destination.
Objectives
Every day, this list will change. When you complete the three objectives on this list, you will earn $30,000 and 5,000 RP. (RP is the in-game term for experience.
Inventory
In this section, you can do a good number of things that are extremely helpful, especially during intense situations or shoot-outs
Body Armor (Inventory)
You can stop in to an Ammu-Nation to purchase armor from the wall on the left as you walk in. After you purchase the first one, it will automatically equip that armor for you, however, you can purchase a handful of back-up armor to keep at the ready. This option in the inventory menu will allow you to equip that instantly from anywhere.
(Note: You unlock the ability to purchase thicker armor as you level up. They will not all be available to you right off the bat.)
Snacks (Inventory)
There are a few places that you can pick up snacks (grocery stores, vending machines, the secretary in your Organization office, etc.) These serve as little health boosts if you find yourself in a shoot-out and need to get to some cover and regenerate some of your health bar. The trick is to eat or drink your snacks while you are propped up against a wall taking cover. It will restore your health quicker this way, because if you don't, you have to watch the animation of your character actually enjoying their snack. This isn't very ideal when guns are blazing.
Ammo (Inventory)
This one is self-explanatory when you open it. If you are low or out of ammo, just open your inventory quick and buy some rounds for whichever weapon you need them for. Or, pay a hefty price to restock all your ammo at once.
Style
One of the first things you may find yourself doing when you start playing, is stopping in to one of the clothes stores and buying ridiculous pieces of clothing for your character. An important thing to note is, if you set up your outfit first, and then go talk to the clerk, you can save the outfit. This will allow you to immediately go shopping for more clothes and save a second, and a third, and so on. The style section of your phone will, among other things, allow you to quickly change your outfits while you're out in the world.
Change Appearance (Style)
This will allow you to go and change your character's physical appearance, not just their hair or clothes. However, doing this will cost you $100,000.
Accessories (Style)
When you go shopping at any of the clothing stores or Ammu-Nation, you can stop and pick up some accessories. This comes in the form of hats, glasses, necklaces, masks, etc. This option will allow you to change between any of the ones that you own at any point.
Outfit (Style)
I mentioned before that you can quickly change between saved outfits in your style menu. This is where.
Bike Helmet and Visor (Style)
You can purchase a series of helmets from the clothing shop and then cycle through them here in this menu. If you set it to auto show your bike helmet, you need to wait a second after sitting down on a motorcycle and your character will equip the selected helmet.
Note: This does give you a little bit of armor when crashing your motorcycle.
Action (Style)
This is the emote that your character can do. To perform the action, press both analog sticks in (PS4 / XB1,) or hit Caps Lock (PC.) You can hold them in or tap rapidly to do the emote for a longer time.
Vehicles
This is where you can manage the vehicle options for the ones that you own. You can request a personal vehicle, set settings for who can ride / drive your personal vehicle, or even trigger remote mechanics that you may have purchased.
Request Personal Vehicle (Vehicles)
As you purchase cars, trucks, and motorcycles, they will be stored in one of your garages. The last one that you enter will be your assigned personal vehicle. If you aren't within range of it, and it's not destroyed, you can request that it's dropped off nearby. Check your mini-map for a vehicle icon and head towards it after you make the call.
SecuroServ
After you've purchased an Organization Office, select "Register as a CEO." This will allow you to manage some of your businesses like the Bunker, Arcade, etc., and invite your friends to become associates so that you can do some group activities together. After you register as a CEO, open your Interaction Menu once more. At the top, you will now see "SecuroServ CEO" as an option. This is where you will find all your CEO abilities and associate management options. You can read more about there here.
(Note: Some of the SecuroServ menu items will be different if you are the CEO or if you are an associate, but most of the abilities will remain the same if the CEO has access to them.)
Motorcycle Club
This, like the SecuroServ CEO options, will become available after you purchase a Clubhouse. Everything about it works exactly like the CEO options as well, except it will be open to you after you "Start a Motorcycle Club." The main difference here will be that you can't summon CEO vehicles or use the CEO abilities, you can just spawn your personal motorcycles. To read more about the Motorcycle Club abilities, options, and business management, you can find that information here.
Hide Options
If you are getting annoyed with all the icons that are scattered around your map, you can select which ones you want to see or not in this menu.
Impromptu Race
Select this if you want to quickly challenge another player to a race towards a selected way-point.
Highlight Player
This will highlight another player on your map for a short time. This can be helpful when you are in a full lobby and you need to quickly find a target or a friend.
Voice Chat
This is where you can mute the people talking in public lobbies and set it to be just your crew or your friends instead.
Spawn Location
This is where you start once you log in or find a new server in GTA Online. You can change this to a more suitable location so that you can get right to work when you log on.
Player Targeting Priority
This selection is if you are not currently in a Motorcycle Club or Organization with your friends, but you are still doing things together. It will change your auto-targeting when looking down the sights of a gun to select certain targets and avoid others.
Kill Yourself
I do not think I need to explain this one.
Enable Passive Mode
If you are in a public lobby, and you want to do your own thing without people bothering you, you can enable Passive Mode. However, you can NOT do this if you are in an Organization or Motorcycle Club.

See Who Is In Your Lobby
When you jump into a public online GTA server, you can hit down on the directional pad (PS4 / XB1) or the down arrow key (PC.) This is a quick way to help someone earn a little extra cash, and get the target off your back for other players in the lobby.
